Seeing Mary for acupuncture was one of the most supportive, healing, and uplifting parts of my fertility journey. I started seeing Mary after my first round of IVF ended in a miscarriage. She listened to what I was going through, validated my feelings, and gave me hope that I would have another baby someday. I saw Mary while prepping for my next transfer which thankfully resulted in pregnancy and continued seeing her throughout my pregnancy until the birth of our beautiful baby boy in February 2021! Mary is kind, comforting, gentle, and truly the godmother of the South Shore! Thank you, Mary, for playing an instrumental role in helping to grow our family.

Our little miracle is here and a pivotal point in our journey to conceive was seeing Mary! She was heaven sent when I needed her most and I didn’t even know then the impact she would have on me. After an unexpected ectopic pregnancy and an emergency salpingectomy I struggled emotionally and physically. Emotionally, the heartbreak and the fear were overwhelming and very hard to navigate while also struggling physically to recover after surgery and trying to get my body to “normal”. My period became very unpredictable and extremely painful which made it difficult as we tried once again to conceive.

After about a year trying and with the hopes to conceive naturally, my OB suggested trying acupuncture and spoke very highly of Mary. Considering the amazing recommendation and reviews, I really wanted her to be my acupuncturist even when I had to wait 4 months for my first appointment; it was totally worth the wait! Since then, Mary has been so patient, kind, supportive and encouraging- she helped me with my healing process and helped me regain hope that I could have a successful & healthy pregnancy. After one month of treatment, my period finally arrived for the first time in months and the pain was manageable (I couldn’t believe it!). In that next cycle I finally saw the smiley face in the ovulation strips and I remember it was the happiest and most hopeful I had been in the past year. I remained committed to my weekly sessions and to my surprise, a few weeks later I was pregnant.

Even after getting pregnant, fear of a loss remained in the back of my mind and every appointment Mary continued to extend kindness and encouragement. I am so happy I had her treating and supporting me throughout my full pregnancy up until week 39 when our little one joined our family. It was such a beautiful experience of growth and connection with our baby that I will treasure forever. Words cannot express how eternally grateful me and my husband are to Mary. It is a true blessing to have such an amazing and inspiring woman and professional as part of our journey. She continues to have an impact now throughout my fourth trimester (postpartum) and whenever we start our journey for baby #2 we can’t imagine doing it without her.

I started seeing Mary Egan after struggling to get pregnant for a year and a half. We were told we would need IVF and in the meantime “might as well try acupuncture”. The first time I saw her she told me that I needed my mind and body to align and get my anxiety under control before I could carry a healthy pregnancy. She asked to give her six months before making a decision if acupuncture was for us. We were shocked when I received a positive test three days before our first IVF meeting (exactly six months later). With our second child, we tried unsuccessfully for nine months and realized that the only thing missing/different this time around was acupuncture. This time, she had a different approach and told me I was in a much better place and it would only take a few months to get everything aligned. Three months later, I was pregnant. With our third child (we are very fortunate), I met with her twice before getting pregnant. My husband and I both truly believe she is the reason we have three beautiful children.

I have been seeing Mary for roughly 4 years. I had been referred to her by a friend after I had been seeing another acupuncturist for about two years. I am being treated for an auto immune disease with lung involvement. To date I have not been on any medication(after being diagnosed ten years ago) and my goal is to stay that way. My sessions with Mary also focus on arthritis in my knees and my hand. The acupuncture helps to keep the pain to a minimum and keeps me calm and relaxed. “I started seeing Mary when I was referred to a reproductive endocrinologist after over a year of trying to conceive and a miscarriage. “I was diagnosed with PCOS after 6 months of trying to conceive. After several failed IUI’s and two rounds of IVF, my first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. I was devastated. I found Mary when I was at my lowest point during my fertility battles, and after the first appointment with her, I had a renewed, positive sense about my fertility. “I began seeing Mary in late summer of 2015 at the referral of a close friend.  Having experienced a pregnancy loss due to chromosomal abnormality 6 months earlier, I was dealing with grief and the frantic desire to be pregnant again.  My cycles were irregular and I was getting overwhelmed.  In my first visit with Mary, I was instantly put at ease. “I cannot recommend Mary enough! I started seeing her when I was seven weeks pregnant and experiencing severe morning sickness. I saw her about once a week for treatment and was able to find some relief from my morning sickness. At about 22 weeks, the nausea finally wore off. I was so impressed with Mary’s knowledge and demeanor, I continued seeing her throughout my pregnancy to keep my body balanced and relaxed. At 38 weeks, I delivered my (healthy and beautiful) son. “I have had the pleasure of knowing Mary for a couple of years now. When I was first diagnosed with infertility (specifically, low ovarian reserve), I searched extensively for the best acupuncturist who specializes in infertility. That’s when I was so fortunate to meet Mary and begin adding acupuncture care into my routine. She was so informative, caring and nurturing during that first phone conversation, I knew from the start I was in good hands.

The infertility journey has taken me through 6 months of aggressive fertility treatment, including: 3 failed IUI cycles, 3 failed IVF cycles and a common bleak prognosis from 3 different fertility specialists. I was given a 0-2% chance of a successful spontaneous pregnancy and even less for delivering a healthy baby.

Through it all, I continued with my routine acupuncture appointments. It was a key component of not only maintaining balance during the journey, but also helped to maintain my sense of calm both physically and mentally. I work in western medicine, and sometimes even in my own practice western medicine isn’t the sole answer. Thinking outside of the box is key in regards to combining a successful outcome, that being a joint approach of both western and eastern practices. So I did just that. I admit, initially, I was hesitant about the herbs, but then I decided I would keep all of my options open, as I truly had nothing to lose. So I continued my practice of acupuncture through Mary’s expertise and skilled guidance. After the western course failures, I dove deep into the herbs, diet and immune cleanse in the fall of 2016 and continued the course. To my surprise, I had an emergent ectopic in early 2017. Despite the loss, I was so hopeful that I was able to get pregnant spontaneously. I took it as a cautiously optimistic sign. I continued with the same approach with the strict diet, immune cleanse and routine acupuncture course. Then in the late summer of 2017, I was pleasantly surprised that I was successfully spontaneously pregnant.

Mary’s acupuncture expertise and whole body approach has been a constant source of strength during my entire journey. Not only has it helped maintain physical and mental balance, but it has provided me an invaluable tool to restore a sense of positivity. Although, I thought I did, I truly did not realize how stressed and unbalanced I was before.
